At A Glance
This 2-day course presents a comprehensive approach to the business
process specification problem with a particular focus on the role
of business rules and business processes. With techniques that
have been developed over the last decade, a business solution
specification framework is introduced that provides a long-term
vision for moving organizations along the path to specification
maturity encompassing integrated business process and business
rules modeling.
Traditional business process analysis techniques only address
a portion of a business’s behavior. By failing to capture
business rules as separate from business processes these techniques
prevent organizations from being able to respond to business rules
changes separate from process changes. Since business rules typically
change at a much higher rate than processes do, this can severely
undermine an organizations ability to respond to business change.
Preserving the ability of business experts to maintain business
processes and business rules depends upon a comprehensive approach
to capturing and relating business processes, business rules,
business event and business entities. In addition this approach
must be aligned with an IT architecture that preserves the business
expert’s ability to directly maintain these definitions
or else the IT community will be forced to become custodians of
business behavior thereby undercutting the business’s own
control.
